Rich and Alex's adventures in Asia
on richmac's travel map.
Well, here’s a real Asian adventure post – the first of many no doubt.
So we arrived in Bangkok on Tuesday evening and finally got to the hotel about 8ish (after receiving a minor fleecing from the taxi driver). Very nice too it was – small but perfectly formed(ish). Nick arrived at the hotel an hour or so later, and on the rum.

Aaahh Sangsom. It has become a trusty companion of ours.
Often leads to misadventures.

After chatting with a chap at the hotel for a while, and feeling somewhat squiffy, we headed to Patpong, a rather mental place.
You wan see ping pong shooooowwwww????!!!!!!
Yes, but not now thanks.
Plenty of seedy bars, and even more seedy old blokes ogling young Thai hotties (well, mostly hotties, some not so). Lots of staring at Thai ladyboys (some convincing, some really NOT convincing – I can see Adams Apples!) and plenty of drunken stumbling later, we thought it wise to return to the hotel for an early night (after, of course, some cheap food and more beer – which, I hasten to add, I could not finish, as the world seemed to be on a hill at that point and the gods were against me finishing mine). Alas, all the staff were sat outside boozing it up, so of course we felt obliged to join them. Oh woe is us!
Next day, we woke up at about 4pm feeling downright weird. Fuzzy headed to say the least. Of course, it was all jetlag – nothing else could explain it. Didn’t do too much that day, except get taken to a really shitty gem shop against our will (or at least we didn’t know we didn’t want to go until we got there). A bit of wandering about and a nice cold shower made us feel a touch more human, so we headed out for a wee boat trip along the river (from which there were many lovely sights) and off for a spot of dinner on the Khao San road.

That’s the main touristy hubbub, and is very lively to say the least!
Had bloody excellent Thai Green Curry and some noodles and some rice and some tempura (we felt pretty sick after devouring our full tables-worth of munch) and wandered about for a bit, getting a couple of beers here and there.

We had decided to head home fairly early, being still jetlagged, but was drawn in by a fat kid with fire-poy and some pounding beats on the street.

Ended up getting jolly ratted once more, found a few bars (Happy Bar was particularly happy - nice touch with a flower attached to the beer!) and were asked repeatedly if we ‘wan massssaaaaaaaage??!?!?!?!?!’.

Thus ended Bangkok, take 1.
Next stop, Prachuap Kiri Khan (at least that’s what we set out to do).
Hello, Alex here. As Rich says we decided to go to Prachup but the train was full so we set off for another beach spot one stop before Prachup called Hua Hin which is where we are writing to you from.
Had a mighty adventure getting from the train to the hotel Nick recommended. Got in a taxi with a super friendly but slightly confused Thai lady who took us on a wild goose chase to some deserted and very expensive part of town, still at least we got to see the sights, and it wasn’t long before we found our way again and got to the Bang Faa hostel which is awesome…. We have a balcony, very fancy! I say fancy but I woke up wedged in between the pushed together single beds this morning (at 7am, bloody jetlag!).

Since arriving we have done much of the same, wandering, eating, drinking and watching. Last night we spent most of the night at the hostel but we ventured out to the party filled streets and enjoyed a game of connect four with some tiny Thai tots (they bloody love it out here, and the whooped rich’s arse!) We played pool and marveled at the amount of 100 year old men with their twenty something Thai ladies! Very alarming!
Today we have been to the beach and discovered that bananas are orange on the inside, oranges are green on the outside and eaten a fruit that might be a papaya, it might not but it was yummy
.

Rich trod on a pointy thing by the sea, you have to be very careful by the sea - giant, monster coconuts come rolling at your ankles at a million miles an hour. Quite literally.

I saw a massive fish with no head and guts spilling out (it was out to get me) and also a plank of wood with nails sticking out! Luckily rich only trod on a pointy thorn and he seems fine, all is well.
We have had lunch and now we shall do some more wandering. Will be posting again soooooooooooooooooooooon
ta ta for now.
